TASK Midwest

Kendra Paitz has worked with artist Oliver Herring on his ongoing TASK project since 2008. In 2010, they organized a large-scale TASK Party at University Galleries of Illinois State University. More than 300 people participated in the event, with many traveling for up to three hours to attend. They then installed an exhibition of Herring's videos, photographs, sculptures, and ephemera related to TASK's history within the chaotic environment created by ISU TASK participants. While the exhibition traveled to venues in Minneapolis and St. Louis, ISU TASK served as a catalyst for using TASK in classrooms, galleries, and museums throughout the Midwest. Paitz developed the TASK Midwest website as a case study for the momentum that can be generated by a single event. Additionally, it provides TASK participants and organizers with an accessible online archive for their TASKs.
Oliver Herring: TASK, published by University Galleries of Illinois State University, features essays by Paitz, Herring, Ian Berry, and Kristen Hileman, as well as statements by dozens of TASK participants worldwide.
